Board Member
Dr. Jillian Broughton-Tedder
Dr. Jillian Broughton-Tedder’s passion for helping others and for art drew her to dentistry early in life. A native of Mauldin, SC, Dr. Jillian graduated from Furman University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. During her time at Furman, she received an academic scholarship and was president of the Rho Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc.
Furthering her education, she graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2020. During her time at MUSC she volunteered at the East Cooper Community Outreach Dental Clinic, the Special Olympics, and completed a dental mission trip in Ecuador. After that, she completed a year of Advanced Education in General Dentistry at a comprehensive health center in Nashville, TN. Dr. Jillian relocated back to Charleston, SC to be with her now husband, Senator Deon Tedder. She is now an associate dentist at Coastal Kids Dental and Braces where she rotates through their many offices in Charleston. She has always been interested in the way dentistry incorporates art and science to make a difference in peoples’ smiles.
Dr. Jillian’s favorite part about working with children is how funny and sometimes brutally honest they are. She enjoys helping them create positive lifelong habits. In her free time, Dr. Jillian enjoys trying out new restaurants, Pilates, making Tik-Toks with her sister and two nieces, sketching, and traveling.

Dr. Diane Ross-Jackson
Dr. Diane Ross has been involved in education for over 30 years. Currently she is practicing real estate with Caldwell Realty. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education and Master’s in Education from South Carolina State University. She later pursued further studies in the Education Program at The Citadel and earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education and Educational Leadership. She didn’t stop there in her educational pursuit. She earned her Doctorate Degree from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Ross taught Special Education at Ft. Dorcherster High School and Summerville High School. She subsequently became the assistant principal at Buist Academy for Advanced Studies in Charleston County School District. After three years as AP, she was approached to apply for the position of principal of Memminger Elementary School. Her most recent position in administration was with W. B. Goodwin Elementary School, where she retired as principal after 10 years.
Dr. Ross currently serves on The Low Country Foodbank Board of Directors, the Professional Football Players Mothers Association Board of Directors, and the American Cancer Society Executive Leadership Council. Dr. Ross and been involved with and chaired a number of committees throughout her career. She has served as principal mentor to several new principals in the school district. She has presented several times at the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and South Carolina Association of Title I Schools conferences.
Dr. Ross believes that all students can learn but each learns in a different way and at different rates. She believes that with hard work and perseverance we can tough each child in a special way. Keeping the atmosphere positive and with high expectations are the keys to success. Dr. Ross feels that teamwork is the ultimate way a school can be successful in reaching the goal of helping a child attain his or her full potential. Dr. Ross’ motto is “Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of a true education’’ ~Martin Luther King.

Mary Stansel
A resident of Charleston since 1978, Mary Frye Stansell is a 1986 graduate of Winthrop College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Mary was president of Sigma Tau Beta sorority and a founding member of the Chi Omega Fraternity at Winthrop. After a ten year career in business, Mary left banking to pursue a career in education following her grandmother's footsteps.
She received her Master of Art in Teaching degree from the College of Charleston and holds certification in both Early Childhood and Elementary. Upon graduating in 2007, she began and continues to work at W B Goodwin Elementary School, a Title One school in North Charleston, where she found her passion for working with struggling readers. She received certification from Clemson University and continues to develop a students ' love for reading.
Mary and her husband, Keith, have three adult children, and soon to have four beautiful grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, kayaking, reading, football, and spending time with family and friends.
